"Just say it's the best thing you ever ate," I begged.
But they HAD to be honest...
"The cake is dry."
"It's too sweet."
"I expected CHOCOLATE!"
| At least we had the famous Starlight Mint Surprise cookies. Rolled up cake awaits filling and frosting. |
The other Tuesdays With Dorie bakers can be found here. Most of their families were less demanding, LOL!
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Fantastic Festivus - whatever your cup of tea - hope it's a good one. Here are a few pictures from our holiday.
And a shoe. From the family Christmas party. The youngest of the young accidentally lost it while she was eating.

I'd love to try the pecan/cream cheese filling on a chocolate cake too! Looks and sounds like a great Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your family photos. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI felt it was very dry, and would have preferred chocolate to the "gingerbread-less flavor...but I did love the frosting ;-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays!
Love the pattern you used for the pecans. Makes it look more LOGGY!! Beautiful cake. All the steps were well worth it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cake! I find that my family are the worst critics - I served this cake to my neighbours and they loved it!
ReplyDeleteHa-if I had gotten that response I would have imposed my 'you will have none-and like it' rule. Love your cake decoration and it looks like you had a beautiful holiday despite the demands.
ReplyDeleteHaha…I love the honesty and comments! I always tell my tasters, tell me the truth! :) Good job!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to beat chocolate! I do like Golden Life PHX's response.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful New Year!
Looks like you had a fine, celebratory time together, despite the lack of chocolate. Having said that, I think chocolate is a fantastic idea!
ReplyDeleteI think your cake looks fabulous! Honestly, I loved this cake…and really loved the frosting! I do think it might be less sweet with a whipped cream, or custard filling! Happy New Year, Peggy!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful and chocolate or no chocolate, it's a lovely treat!
ReplyDeleteEveryone's a critic. But your buche looks great! Isn't it nice to make a super-impressive dessert sometimes? (Even if not everyone is impressed. *grin*)
ReplyDeleteIf lack of chocolate was the only issue, then I'd call that a success :-)
ReplyDeleteI did love this frosting (and the pralines) and may or may not have had several helpings of each sans cake...
